Walking Away

Walking away
took a lifetime
of courage, but step
by step she made
her way toward
what she knew
was inner peace

Away from the
ties that had bound
her soul for so many
years

Black gloved hands
held like a lady,
suitcase following,
like so many memories
that she held inside...

The good memories
of what once was
traveling with her
and the ones too
hurtful to bear,
left at the door
as she walked away,
forevermore...
