Buried Secrets

Buried Secrets

Her emotions crippled
by years of abuse and
she wonders how
to make it end

She keeps the secret
to herself, not even
telling her best friend

She prays for strength
to face another day,
somehow she makes
it through

She hides the details
behind dark glasses,
her eyes beat black and blue

After years of hidden shame,
one day rising from a fall,
she finds the courage buried
deep within to start her life anew

At Last

At Last

Nervous laughter
fills the air like the
tinkling of piano keys

Anticipation builds
heavy, like a storm cloud
brewing

Electricity fills the room
as each is drawn to
the other by an unseen
force field, magnetic in
it's pull

As the life-long lovers
come together, flesh
touching flesh, the gods truly
tremble, thunder rolls
toward the heavens
and the joining is complete,
at last

Attitude

Attitude

Sun peeks through the window,
its a bright, new day
and once you step out of bed
its your role to "play"

Bitter, happy, angry
or joyful, remember it's your call
you will be the one to live
with the outcome, after all

So what's it going to be,
where will your attitude take you?
You choose how your day will
go in every thing you do...

Mantra

Mantra

Memories all askew,
leading back to "better
days," yet when I focus
on the truth, I realize
that today is the "best
day," and recognizing
the ability to make
every day your "best day"
is the beginning of
your creation inner
harmony

Shadowing memories
is all well and good
but living today as
if it were your last
not worrying about
yesterday or tomorrow
helps you to understand
the beauty and precious
quality of each
second that ticks by

Keep your memories,
for they are precious things,
live not in your past nor
in your future, for it is your
this moment which molds
your past and your when
you allow yourself that "present"
that gift of "now" you become
in tune with all that is and
life's path is every more
fulfilling

Love, shine, wonder, be in awe
(like a child) laugh at butterflies
and cry at sunsets for the sheer joy
of living is in each innocent
deed

Summer Night

Summer Night

Lying under an August moon,
I reach out to touch the sky
lazing there, my mind drifts
back to a night this past July

Stars were bright, twinkling
diamonds, for all the world
to see, while we made love
to the cadence of night
sounds, forging a perfect
memory

While the moonbeams
danced in your eyes,
I fell in love again, with you
and forever will I cherish that
summer's night and the dream
that at last came true

God Talk

God Talk

You say to have none
above you and I
truly don't mean to

But if I'm honest
with us both,
I think more of him
than you

He's wise and strong,
loving and caring too

But all this "hero worship"
seems to be clouding my
point of view

So I'm sending this apology,
please forgive me and
understand

I finally do realize that
he is just a "mortal man"

Please help me to be
the person you would
have me to be

Grant me patience
and kindness and
above all, humility

Eve

Eve

Eden lady,
apple in hand

Cannot fight
temptation,
afraid to take
a stand

Your choice did
cost you to know
pain

I wonder, Eden lady,
would you take a bite
again?

Morning

Morning

Morning in all it's glory,
seeping through my windowpane

Dawn's break of the day,
washed clean and fresh, again

Birds are waking slowly,
singing to the dawn

Dew has left a thousand
tiny prisms dancing
across the lawn

I can smell the coffee
brewing in the pot

Another day of glorious
wonder will not be forgot

Rising from my bed,
to drink a cup of brew

I walk my little stone path
as my feet are bathed in dew

Magical Nights

Magical Nights

When the magic happens,
swift as a gazelle,
I find my inner "crystal ball"
and crawl right of my shell

And when the rings are tossed,
I know not where they'll land
but I keep my eyes wide open
and my head out of the sand

I find my self in a hypnotic state
as I slowly walk their way,
magic my only focus and
the moon bright as the day

I listen for the soft, low chant
and wonder if I dare,
but as the circle forms around me,
the magic takes me there...

Warp Speed

Warp Speed

Time speeds by
like a rocket ship,
a little faster each day

Hurry, hurry, hurry
has become the only
way

If only we could take
the time to slow things
down a bit

We might find our lives
are fuller and find
that more things "fit"

It's "life" that you are living,
every second of every day

So stop, take a deep
breath, and to yourself
say:

I have time, for
tomorrow's another day...

Soul of Music

Soul of Music

The soul of music
arose from the depths
soothing some,
while others wept

It washed over them
like waves and
swept up each one,
a haunting melody
of things left undone

It rose an octave when
they all joined hands,
and their chanting was
heard throughout
all the lands

Soon the clouds parted
and out came the sun
to honor the soul of music
which had finally begun

And the world was renewed
with a completely different light,
as we spirit danced to the music
long into the night

Lazy Daisy

Lazy Daisy

Lazy Daisy refused to bloom
so Father Sun asked why

Because in order for me to
bloom, the blue skies have to cry

Silly flower, those are not tears
you see

It is simply mist
off the heaven's deep blue sea

So Lazy Daisy tried her best
and she bloomed like never
before

And Father Sun smiled a
winsome smile as he began
to set once more

The Farmhouse

The Farmhouse

I drove slowing along
the country road, mesmerized,
as the wheat waved
in the breeze, it's golden
splendor reflecting light
for what seemed like miles

Drawing closer, the worn,
dilapidated farmhouse
shown like a gray beacon, the
old tin roof a little worn for wear
and the smells of grandma's
baking filling the air...

There is no hug as tight nor
eyes as bright as that of
grandmother's on a warm
summer afternoon, when you
are road-weary and ready
to settle in to memory lane

I climbed the huge rock and
sat looking out over the cliff, seeing
miles of valley, the hills rolling
beyond, covered in green,
green grass, cows grazing and crows
circling, filling the air with their
caws

Grandpa found me there, still
staring out over the valley, the
sun going down and he sat down
beside me without uttering a word

The dinner bell rang and we both knew
it was time to go home, grandma was calling
and all was right with my world

Summer

Summer

Impatient hues of green
reaching toward the sky

Splashes of yellow, pink
and purple too, ever pleasing
to the eye

Buzzing little bumble bees
dart around the scene
while bluebirds chirp out
sweet songs and life feels so serene

I am grateful for summer days
and lazy afternoons,
watching clouds float by
like puffy air balloons

Once summer is over
and the greens begin to brown
I'll remember this summer fondly
and wish it were back around

Circling Madness

Circling Madness

Testing the waters of
madness, my foot slips
in and the icy awareness
snaps me back to reality

The circling buzzards
wait and watch as I falter,
yearning to pick clean my bones

I climb onto the slippery
rocks, moving trance-like,
determined not to let the truth
of what was take me down
with it - for being conquered
by delusion is not my will and
though I stumble, I will not fall

Waiting for my surrender will
be their lonely burden, starved
by my fortitude, the negative forces
within and without will be kept
at bay

...and I will survive, triumphant!

Tears of Renewal

Tears of Renewal

I surrender completely
to my unshed tears,
building like a starburst
in my chest

I let them flow like
tiny streams, building
to a mighty river
where I will sail
into the mist of
unknown days and
find my way back home

This journey has veered
off my intended path and
I find myself alone with
tattered dreams and wishes

And as my tears subside,
I find a new purpose, an
inner strength I never knew
existed and I shout to the
mountains and the seas,
here I am again, home at last

Forever Silent - awareness of child abuse

Forever Silent

Forever silent,
to cry no more
never again to suffer
the blame he bestowed

Eternal beauty,
long golden curls,
eyes blue as midnight -
asleep for all time

Harsh words always
spoken, won't be
heard any more -
merciful angels have
carried her home

What grows inside a person
that allows them to abuse
such a precious child?

Stop the abuse.

The Calming

The Calming

As the steam rises,
she closes her eyes,
slipping deeper into oblivion,
submerged in thoughts of
days gone by

Emotions like gnarled, twisted trees,
turning her world upside down

And when the water surrounds her
the calming comes to her, slowly,
deep breathing, candles lit,
music low, her chanting softly

For she reaches deep within herself
to find the light of day and as her
inner strength takes hold
she rises up anew…

Caldron of Hope

Caldron of Hope

Black cat howling
at the full moon,
calling for her mistress

Chants begin in the
midst of the forest
as the wise gather
in ceremony

Spiraling smoke turns
into flame and reflects
in green eyes, full
of ancient wisdom

There are spells to be cast
and work to be done as
the creed is whispered
"help all, harm none"

And as the circle is formed
townspeople cry out, not
knowing what will unfold
- tis a shame and disgrace
for the human race what
happened there on that night

For the caldron of hope
was lost to the forest when
good was perceived as evil

The Politician

The Politician

Lip service to the masses,
he makes his promises known -
that he may keep them
is a chapter not yet written

When all faith is lost
and the crowds want blood,
it will take more than
a one man show to stop
the ever growing vines
of bitterness and hate

He must gather in the folds,
push light into the forefront
as we ready for confrontation,
determined to win back the right
to define freedom and justice,
for all

Lifeplay

Lifeplay

We all know life holds no guarantees,
nothing is set in stone

But I believe as your path turns
you come into your own

It's not certain that the sun will shine
or that the rain will pour

However, I know you'll never get "there"
unless you walk out that door

Succeeding comes from trying,
not from sitting still

So, chin up, old girl, and remember
life isn't always about how we feel

It's more a case of give and take
and helping along the way

Seek and find the important things
as you face yourself each day

Cold Waters Run Deep

Heartbreak is second nature
yet she plunges in again -
cold waters run deep
as she spurts forth
her reckless words
slung out like nets,
they sink, unclaimed
and ignored

She tries her hardest
to capture a heart, so
desperate for love -
if only she believed
three simple words:

first, love thyself

When you accept that,
everything else falls into place
like a new day's dawn;
full of hope and radiance

The Rat Race

Hurry, scurry,
walk the maze;
can't take time to
stop and breath

Punch the clock
and make the day -
forget to call
and say hello

Days click by,
then months, then years;
how much have you
accumulated?

How different life
would really be
if only you had not
tried to live the
"image"

Water Lily Pond

Water Lily Pond

I was to meet her
on the arched bridge
at a quarter past three

As water lilies softly floated,
the day's magnificence
mesmerized me

I didn't see her looking for me
I wonder if she waited long
So lost was I to the lily pond
and the frogs lonely song

I missed my chance of kissing
her underneath the willow tree
and now I sit alone by the lily pond
for she won't even talk to me...

The Dance

The Dance

Cherubs dancing,
liver spotted old
ladies sitting this
one out

Bald ones want
the skinny ones
and the wallflowers
just want someone

The band strikes
up a long forgotten
tune and for a moment
everyone stops to listen

Sailors wait for their
dance ticket to be
pulled while the pretty
girls smile through ruby red lips

In the corner, the lonely man
taps his foot and as the crowd
passes him by, he sips
another drink of courage

Inconsequential Rain

Inconsequential Rain

Gentle rain
falls upon
your face
and you don't
seem to notice

Your dark,
piercing eyes
see me as if
you've never
looked before

Behind the passion
I see hope and I
can feel the need
to find a way

a way for us...

Drifting Days

Drifting Days

The dirt feels cool
around my fingers
and squishes between
my toes

Bringing back childhood's
fondest memories when
pirates were my heroes

The sun lays warm upon
my back, while the birds
sing out their tune

I find myself lost in time,
smiling, remembering,
on this lazy, drifting afternoon

Insomnia

Insomnia

eternal night
clouds burst
stars flying

mind plays
tricks, heart
feels empty

dreams kept
alive with
denial

constant song
the cry of a
nighthawk,
closer and
closer

close your
eyes now, rest

Desert Lost

Desert Lost

Emotions raw
endless cries
of birds circling
overhead

Parched lips
aimless wander
no end in sight

Shadows form
crystallized on
my heart

The sun drops
golden hue'd
as the desert
comes alive

Coyotes begin
their nightly
concert while
fear is my
water and
madness
my feast

The Rose

The Rose

Tantalized by
her splendor,
he reaches out
to touch the
velvety softness
of her hair

Words, like tiny
thorns prick
his soul and he
draws back,
afraid

The very essence
of her fills his
nostrils, leaving him
dizzy with longing

Finding no voice
his stands alone
his heart pounding
in his chest

Sadly content to
love from afar
as the rarest
of beauty unfolds
daily he prays
for courage

The Forgetting

The Forgetting

Mellowing mind
filled with memories
fading like the light
at dusk

Cobwebbed corners
of her brain try
desperately to recall
faces and names
that once came so easily

She begins a sentence
as if nothing has changed
yet in seconds time stops
and she wonders
where she is

Thoughts float like
butterflies and at times
the mind clears like
a warm, sunny day

At other times it's
like looking through
fog and thinking back
she remembers a name,
calling out she does
not realize it is her own...

The Shift

The Shift

Planets aligned,
energy shifts -
the new way
comes at last

Gridlines form -
light touches
light as we
join with our
past

A knowing
soul can move
the earth and
bring oneself
to "now"

As we rebirth and
bestow our light,
paths become
one as in "love"
we allow

Spewing

Spewing

You bring out an anger in
me that I never knew
existed - it's building
like a volcano erupting
from some inner hell

Raucous, drunken slurs
spewing your mumbled
apologies in the wake
of lives shattered from
empty promises you
cannot keep

How can I stop
this broken
merry-go-round
that has long
imprisoned me

I want to get off...

Persecution

Persecution

I throw myself
into the depths
of mankind,
bowing on
clipped wings

No longer will
I resist my fate
while time heals
my empty dreams

The taskmaster's
demands and
vent-monger's shouts
will be ignored and
freedom will reign my soul

The Soldier's Mistress

The Soldier's Mistress

You've taken risks
all your life, always
living on the edge
but for me you take
no chances, for me
you make no pledge

Your adrenalin ever
flowing - each moment
an adventurous one
your travel never ceasing
your day never done

How will you more than
"love" me?
How can we make a life?
When commitment is your
enemy and combat
is your "wife"?

What you do is honorable,
with that I must agree,
but I know that I want
more than you just
"looking" at me

How will I ever tell you?
When will I give up
this fight?

For it is one I can
never win, be it
wrong or right...

Regret

Regret

The distance between us
is vast, as though you
are a million miles
away, yet you stand
in the next room

In my mind, I search
for answers and the ones
I find only add to my
gloom

Your lovely face
silhouetted
in the dim light
show streaks of your
silent tears

I wonder now what
I've been thinking,
not caring enough,
all these years

Can I turn back the
clock to then and
make amends to you?

Or will you really
walk away and start
your life anew?

I feel regret deep
in my heart as I walk
toward you, wondering
if you'll wait

But then I see the cab
drive up and realize
"I woke up" years
too late...

What if???

This is not a poem, in the sense of the word
but it is something to address to the world

What if?

What is the one thing YOU
can do today to make the
world around you
a better place?

Think about this
before you answer

Try not to think of
something "big picture"
but rather something
small, or rather a series
of small acts that when
looked at overall, makes
a difference...

What if
today you recycled
those old newspapers?

What if
today you spoke to
a stranger with kindness
in your voice?

What if
today you shut off that
light, turned off that tv
when you weren't using it?

What if
today you bought a
cup of coffee for the person
behind you in line?

What if
today you forgave someone?

What if
today you saved one bottle
of water?

What if
today you made a difference?

Agony

Agony

The mind takes a wrong turn
and before you know it,
paranoia sets in

The beast is mocking
and the squall is upon you

The sea is never calm;
the mountains cannot
be climbed

The journey seems endless,
no land in sight

The task unmanageable
as you fight off
the darkness

Ahhhh, race on, horse
for you must outrun
the negatives
in my life

My Best Friend

My Best Friend

A better man
I have not yet known
than the one who
stands before me

With a spring in his step,
a smile in his eyes
a man of honor, courage
and a quiet dignity

How lucky am I that fate
stepped in and brought
this man to me, my light
in a tunnel of darkness,
my best friend for eternity

Passion Rising

Passion Rising

Passion rises as the tide
the moon is full and bright
my lover waits to come to me
in dreams this very night...

Oh come my lover, touch me "now"
with more than whispered thoughts
for my body aches to the very soul
and time stands still no more

In words yet unspoken
I send my thoughts across the sea
to wake you from your slumber
and bring you once more to me

Patience

Patience

Be still heart
learn to wait
to follow...

Slow down mind,
take time to inhale
and glory in the
scent of her love...

Restless body
find solace
in the knowledge
of what will be...

Our Mary Lou

Our Mary Lou

Her smile was always warm and true
her outlook always bright
yes, that was her, our Mary Lou
our star, our heaven’s light

She made us feel so loved each day
her kind heart touched us all
and even though she wanted to stay
she had to answer God’s call

She would have fed the world it seemed
one big meal at a time
and you know our sweet Mary Lou
would give you her last dime

So don’t say goodbye today
just smile as you walk by
for she is with us in every way
looking down from that mountain high

for my Mom

Our Inner Child

Our Inner Child

knowing what I know
and seeing what I see
I believe there’s still a little girl
trapped inside of me

who wonders at life’s butterflies
and stomps and pouts sometimes
who loves the moon and starry skies
and even nursery rhymes

inside of each of us, you see
is our inner child
yearning to be who we must be
calm and quiet or spunky wild…

another way to say this
simply put would be
don’t lose your “self” or ye shall miss
the real you, definitely

On My Way

On My Way

On my way
coming home at last
past days and times
through clouds of gray
where I long to be,
where I yearn to stay

On my way
to see the one,
my man,
my world,
my moon, my sun

On my way
past the guilt and strife
coming home at last
to my one, my life

On my way
in his arms tonight
kissing his lips
holding him tight

Ode to Merlin

Ode to Merlin

The depths of the ocean
cannot begin to hold
the feelings I have inside
how can I put to words?

you are my sun, my moon
my stars and my heavens
my hills, my islands
my rivers, my valleys
my mountains and my streams

my hero and teacher
my knight and my king
my rubies and diamonds
my finest champagne
my sweetest of wines

the spring and the summer of me
the fall and winter within
my warm summer breeze
my hearth and my fire
my heart’s one desire…

I love you

Lynn West

No Words

NO WORDS

No words can truly express
the feelings I have for you
and time cannot take away
our love, so pure and true

No words can show the value
nor the depth of emotions we feel
and time won’t fade the beauty
of a love this strong, this real

No single word will really do
to describe how intensely we love
and time cannot take away
this gift, surely sent from above

And finally its come to be
the words I longed to hear
I’ll see you in the morning, Angel
my plane is already here

Of course no words are needed now
Your body is next to mine
I feel your love, your presence
surrounding me til the end of time

Night of Stars, Moon's Grace

Night of stars, Moon’s Grace

Night of stars
celebrating light
moon’s wonder
mellowing night

No darkness ills
when moon’s light shines
throughout the hills
her light devine

Oh moon, oh moon
we celebrate you
deep in the mountains
and at ocean’s side too
Blessed moon
Lady of light
Goddess of Angels
and heaven’s delight

Your beams glow within us
your light warms the way
peace amongst all
is the chant that I pray

Nevermore

Nevermore

Nevermore to touch her hair
as moonlight bathes her face

Nevermore to kiss sweet lips
or feel her warm embrace

Nevermore to hear her voice
singing soft and low

Nevermore to walk with her
where the wild flowers grow

Nevermore to dance their dance
as stars come out at night

Nevermore to sleep with her
she sleeps eternally tonight…

Nature to Behold

Nature to Behold

Father Time, be still a while
and let me capture this moment

Mother Earth rest your weary head
for we will help you through

King Sun shine bright
and cast your rays
to liven up the day

Moon Goddess, even in shadow
your special glow
can put the stars to shame

Brother Wind, move on
and clean our air
with all your might and strength

Sister Oceans and Lakes
send us your bounty
and for it we will thank thee

Sweet rain, come down and
sprinkle us with your renewing drops

What glory there is in just a day
if only you stop to look

My Little Slice

My Little Slice

A little slice of heaven
I call my “back yard”
with flowers galore, strawberries too
moonlit nights and morning’s soft dew

Freshly cut grass smelling sweet
butterflies and ladybugs too
a swing on the lawn
and a sky, oh so blue

With birds in the bath
and squirrels up a tree
bees buzzing about
this is tranquility to me

My Little Girl

My Little Girl

My little girl, blue eyes full of wonder
the world is waiting for you…
cutting teeth, saying da da
and taking a step or two

Then it’s the “terrible twos”
those rambunctious years
full of mischief and laughter
toys, dollies and tears

On to the threes
where you constantly ask “why”
and when someone says “how pretty”
you shrink back, suddenly shy

Next comes the four’s
playing dress up all day
mimicking mommy at chores
and wanting things your way

And onward you go
five, six, seven, eight
such a good girl,
my heart you elate

And in the blink of an eye
more years have flown by
you’re a teenager now
no longer shy
giving the boys
a smile as they walk by

Off to college you go
all ready to soar,
out on your own,
God, I miss you so

A woman now
no longer my little girl
you’re a beautiful woman,
ready to take a vow

Be happy, my dear
and always know
I found true happiness
just watching you grow

My Favorite Season

My Favorite Season

Star of David, shining bright
guide me through this Autumn night

Harvest moon glowing like the sun
lead me to my special one

Leaves that fall and shine like gold
as the season’s days unfold

Air so crisp, you’ll want to dance
life giving you a second chance

Bountiful harvests, pumpkins galore
ghosts and goblins we all adore

Candy apples and popcorn balls too
what does autumn mean to you?

My Brother from Another Mother

My Brother from Another Mother

He sang to me a song of old
and the words
came back to me
that sweet, sweet sound
of his guitar strummed out
that haunting melody

He’s found his soul
at long, long last
and for that I am full of joy
for this one deserves
true happiness
my brother, my “little boy”

Now will it work out - only
time will tell
and whether it does or not
he will walk life’s path
a happy man
and be thankful
for all he’s got

The Mountain Girl

The Mountain Girl

There once was a man
without malice or plan
who stole the heart
of a mountain girl

Once that mountain girl was his
well, that changed his deed,
for he realized after all
this mountain girl was his one true need

So they climbed the hills
and waded the mire
so that together they’d be
knowing that was both their heart’s desire

A wise man once said
with truth in his voice
love without pain
may not be our choice

But the mountain girl knew
that for him she’d give all
for those eyes of blue
her soul they did call

Serinity

Serenity

Waking up to face each day
with an inner calm

Knowing that when I open my eyes,
you will be there, beside me

Breathing in the scent of you
as I hold you near

Loving you is serenity
and there I find my peace

Happy New Beginnings

Happy New Beginnings

happy new beginnings
as this chapter ends

no worries now
well, maybe, that depends

ah, new beginnings
a life carved out “my way”

to look on the “bright side”
and make sure there I stay

the road is so much clearer
for I start anew today…

Memories

Memories

They say the best things
in life are free,
that friends and family
are everything
and I would have to agree

It seems, though, those times
just don't last, the good times
with friends and family
and before you know it,
it's all in the past

Dealing with this, the loss,
is so hard
what is a person to do?
Memories, my friend, will help you -
just remember the good times,
for they
will see you through...

I don't think of this
as solitary confinement,
more like one-on-none

Simply getting in touch
with the person I see
reflecting back at me

Coming to know who I
really am, all walls
torn down

Getting a grip on reality,
taking all things in stride;
believing that I matter,
bringing to surface
my dignity and pride

Breathe in, breathe out
relax and merely "be"
for there really is no doubt
I am just "me," being "me"

Eternal Darkness

Eternal Darkness

The silence deafens me,
it's all that I can hear...
your laughter no longer
fills these walls, your
voice no longer
whispers in my ear

There is a constant void
where once your sun
brightened my life
and I am feeling
quite "undone"

I miss you with my heart
I miss you with my soul
I miss you as I live and breathe,
your death is taking its toll

The darkness now prevails
there is no Spring for me
and your ever sleeping eyes
is all that I can see

The Cottage

The Cottage

The cool morning mist
surrounds her like a fog
as she steps lightly
into the forest

Dew drops cling to her hair
as she searches for that
special place where she
once belonged

Searching for landmarks,
the old dead tree (long since
returned to the earth)
she loses her way and
finds herself circling
...listening she hears
the babbling of a brook

Standing there for what
seems like hours, she
wonders which way to go,
looking down she sees
the remnants of an old
stone path and instinctively
knows that the cottage is nearby

As she makes her way through
the overgrowth that was
once the garden, past the
low rock wall, there under
the canopy of the massive oak
trees she stops, her breath
coming quickly now in anticipation,
as her search comes to an end

The door stands open, waiting, and as
she makes her way through the cobweb
covered doorway, past the old brick
fireplace, she stops, remembering the
smells of her grandmother's cooking
like it was yesterday

She can still see that
loving face (gone for decades
now) smiling down at her,
eyes twinkling, hands
warm and welcoming

As the hours tick by,
she sits in the tiny kitchen
of the abandoned cottage
that once was her childhood
safe haven and in her mind
the years slip away and she can
once again hear that lovely voice,
softly humming and she yearns
to have her grandmother's arms
around her once more

Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa

Her smile as warm
as a summer’s day,
fresh and lovely as
the month of May

Her eyes truly speak
to your very soul
yet her lips, though they smile sweetly,
leave the story untold

And as she sat for her artist’s hand,
I wonder what she was thinking then?
Did she even want to be there, looking for all the world as if she didn’t even have a care…
Were they pure thoughts, merriment,
candor, even sin?

Oh, Mona Lisa, sweet Mona Lisa,
the world knows you

it makes us want to smile too

The Joining

The night’s moon shimmered on her face
his love, his light, his heart’s one place

To know her touch was heaven’s gate
a soul mate’s kiss, so worth the wait

Each breath he took was for his “Joan”
her heart beat for him alone

How long in time had their wait been?
Matter not - nevermore to wait again!

Of lovers told, their story unrivaled
across time older than the sun
a tale of lovers truly bound
“soul mates” now joined as one

The Nightmare

The Nightmare

Your emotions seizing you
like a vice, the cold so
bitter you can't feel your legs

Slipping into darkness,
you see a faint ray of light,
as your reach out to grasp it
you feel yourself beginning
to warm, yet as you scream,
no words form

Agony overtakes you as
you try to shake off your
fears, the wolves are
circling and there is no
place to run

Then you feel yourself falling
deeper and deeper you plunge
the blackness surrounds you
and you start to spiral!

Wake up, its only a dream....

The Quest

What are you searching for?
You, who wander the streets
with the look on your face
that mirrors a tortured soul

Although you search
"high and low," what you
seek you will not find,
unless you turn your
search within

Take it from someone
who knows; the path
is made of briars and
stone, yet if you
walk your way
in light, you
will never travel
your path alone

The Inevitable

Place the veil on the mirror
and stop the clocks
I can't bear time anymore

Set out the good china
and prepare the feast
for the one who's at death's door

Unable to look back

I sit, suspended, waiting

As the last breath is drawn
and the rain pours down
mourners no longer anticipating

Returning to Thyself

By the light of the moon
through the ages fall
and rest on the green, green
grass

Awake to the quest of the
long lost tribe with
the rubies in their hair

Neither time nor past
will matter now as
you take up the mighty sword

To battle the darkness
within yourself
and shed light on your soul

Make your own way there
and gather with your sisters
from times long since gone by

With perseverance as
your only key, you
will find thyself again

Letting Go

Today is the day I set myself free
yet living on faith to be sure
I ask myself is this where I want to be
and my answer is true and pure

Yes I say, it has to be this way
for turning back is not to be done
for if I let this marriage stay
I would be the lonely one

Its sad to have to hurt someone
to find your destiny
but hurting me has long since been done
and maybe we will both be free

Times are not easy, nor come without pain
faith I must live on now
walking through life harmony my gain
Let the light just show me how

just remember I love you

If

If dreams were mountains high,
mine would reach up and
touch the sky

If wishes always came true,
the one I would wish for
is you…

If hopes filled the ocean blue,
then life for us would start anew…

If want could make it all happen now,
then you’d be with me, someway, somehow

If need was the stars in the sky,
you’d come and never say goodbye

if …

Higher Than The Mountains

deeper than the oceans

Hugging the Air

Hugging air is a lonely affair
And the nights are cold and bleak
longing for his voice to whisper, near
his touch I constantly seek

Wandering through the afternoons
with my head up in the clouds
listening to those lonely tunes
as I sit and cry out loud

Yet settling for less than thy soul mate
should never be one’s fate
so lonely is the air I breath
and in his absence I grieve

…hugging the air

Home, at Last

It's me I see
when I look in the mirror
where was I gone so long?

On a crooked path of self destruction
leading to emptiness

Wake up said the tumor, your life is passing
and now is the time to fly

So I listened when the grandmothers spoke
no more fear or else you “die”

I found home, in Harmony
and I wake to see the real “me” each day

To help others will be my strength
now that I struggle no more,
and the calling I will obey

Lynn West

Home

What a lovely way to start the day
blowing bubbles like a child,
watching as they drift away…

Listening to the birds as they sing
in the zone of my existence -
no cars that zoom, no phones to ring

Flowers blooming all around
bees buzzing about – ahhh
what a joyful sound!

Puppy’s chewing on his doggy bone
my constant little companion –
his love ever being shown

I thank God for this, my serenity
no place on Earth
would I rather be…
home

Lynn West

Heart’s Unfolded

Now the time of pain is here
for love lost, his regret
but one thing is so very clear
pain ebbs but you don’t forget

And so a new chapter starts
with wonder, hope and tears
with cries from both and broken hearts
for all the long lost years

No one is perfect, as they say
and yet we all may think
that love taken for granted
will with the ship not sink

No way to mend, no hope is seen
the time’s now come to heal
our times were good, bad and in between
and true change his heart will reveal

Promises empty, yet unspoken
how could it end like this?
Hearts unfolding, ever broken
Not eternity or bliss…

But hope abounds for you and me
in memories of times gone by
and one day maybe you will see
how much I really did try…

Lynn West

Harmony

Find your way back home to me
to life filled with love and harmony
no longer drifting, wanting more
no longer lonely, empty to the core

Find your way back home to me
where peace waits for you
and then you will see
that our love reigns true
here at Harmony

Find your way back home to me
to smiles and joy and love endlessly
where you belong, and I want you to be
here with me, at Harmony

Find your way back home to me
to live out our days
loving each other, at Hamony

Goddess Speak

One night the stars
forgot to shine
and the moon refused to rise
because their lovely MoonAngel
had eternally closed her eyes

She spoke to them in the
rising of the wind
and here is what she did say:
Forgive me, my chosen ones,
but ye must not be dark, any day

Stars, continue to shine,
Moon always must you rise
for I am with you always,
in the beauty of your night skies

Stars, for me you will twinkle
Moon, in honor of me, rise
and let nothing stop your purpose
not anger, hate or lies

Glory for our Human Race

Unnoticed tears ran down my face
as the music washed over me
a feeling of peace, a time of grace
a knowing of complete harmony

And as the music played the soft sweet sound
my spirit lifted to a new found place
as time stood still and the light shone down
glory for our human race

And I knew what friends were like
a smile, a whispered thought in space
sending light one to another
glory for our human race

As we walked together in unity
from the mountains and valleys down to the sea
knowing as one in harmony and grace
glory for our human race

Girl with Pearl Earring - ode to the painting

Twas a girl with a pearl earring
a gift from her father, you see
and happy did it make her
as happy as any motherless daughter can be

She sat for the painting with patience
a young version of her mother, Annalee
and as she looked round at the artist
her mother’s eyes were all he could see

What history failed to tell you
is that the father was the painter, too
and as he painted his canvas
he painted his wife’s brown eyes
instead of his daughter’s blue

Lynn West

Freedom

little by little you’re saying goodbye
minute by minute my heart wants to die

you have taught me so well
and watched me grow
more than that, you have helped me see
the loving spirit inside of me

don’t leave me now,
don’t set me free
hear me please,
won’t you heed my plea
“forever” I want to be with thee…

alas, in truth, I really know,
that for you the only choice
is to go…
my prince, I will surely
miss you so

Lynn West

For Pablo

He’s still here with us
like the setting sun
he’s in a wind’s gust
or sitting in on a midnight run

He won’t ever leave
he lives on still
we will bereave
and remember him on the hill

So think with a smile
as you remember our friend
apart from us for a while
but with us til the bitter end

He taught us much
with his out law way
and our hearts he did touch
I still see him today
grinning as he said
“what the hell was I gonna say”

FAITH IS…

Faith is planted in hopes and dreams
its written in the stars
and can be endless, it seems

Faith is lived each day by the one
who remembers what hope is
from dawn til setting sun

Faith is reminding yourself all the while
when you want to sink down
stop, think and then smile

Faith is what tests us when the hard times fall
when you wonder how to get through it
keep the faith, above all

Faith is the knowing that comes from inside
when the climb seems impossible
in faith, I’ll abide

Lynn West

Faith

Our time will come
he continues to say
be patient, Angel
we will have our day

Faith is now planted
not just a word
constantly chanted
and now, it seems, heard

I will touch his face
I will feel his touch
I will know his embrace
oh, I need that so much

The times I can’t see him
really tests faith, its true
but the love doesn’t grow dim
our love, it shines through

Lynn West

Eyes of Truth

His eyes were as dark as a summer's night
what thoughts they did conceal
until his words brought out to light
his soul's need to reveal

His young mind wise beyond his years
his soul old as the sun
he knew her sadness, felt her tears
his kindess she could not shun

Perhaps she'd known him once before
in time long since gone by
Perhaps they'd walked through heaven's door
and soared a dark night's sky

Stop the Cycle

Daydreams

A field of red clover
reaching up toward the sky

The Street Walker

Better men have loved and lost
and most have acted foolish
giving up happiness at the cost
of someone really quite ghoulish

A pretty smile or a wiggly walk
can turn a man's head real quick
ah, but if the girl is given to "talk"
too much can make a man feel sick...

So if the girl is really smart
she will keep her thoughts to herself
and if the girl knows her "art"
she will never be put on a shelf...

Counting

Counting the time til you come to me
Counting the minutes one by one
Counting the days til you I can see
Counting the stars and the rising sun

Counting on you to be my love
Counting on happiness for you and me
Counting the stars shining above
Counting on faith, til you I can see

Counting the miles, so far apart
Counting the days we’ve spent in love
Counting the minutes til our lives really start
Counting the times I’ve thanked God above

Counting the smiles that you’ve given me
Counting the tears that I shed missing you
Counting the times you’ve made me feel free
Counting the days without you, when I’m blue

Counting the love that we’ve shared thus far
Counting the times you’ve made me hot
Counting the minutes that have put us where we are
Counting the good times, there have been a lot

Counting on me, counting on you
Counting on love to surely come through

Come September

Come, September, come
third times the charm
days so glorious,
hearts so warm

Come September, come
bring me my one,
my moon, my stars,
my setting sun

Come, September, come
the time draweth nigh
I need his lips touching mine,
the waiting at last gone by

Come, September, come
bring my one, my all
let us finally join

Come, September, come
I’ve waited oh so long
to be with my magic man,

As One

cover me like the shadows of the night
let your essence fill my nostrils
and your breath be my air

lead me into the oblivion of ecstasy
with one tender touch
of your trembling hand

take me to heights newfound
higher than the highest of mountains
just by gazing into my eyes

Join me in a lover's dance
as old as time where
passion's fires alight so brightly
that we make the gods tremble

know me inside and out
become my soul as I surely
become yours...

Lynn West

Along the Way

There was a time when I loved him
at least I thought it so
living life without care or whim
and only up to go

Then something happened along the way
hard to say just when
wasn’t one thing, one year or one day
just “wasn’t’” after then

So many times life passes us by
wanting the love we need
realizing too late to cry
forgiving those who do misdeed

And so it goes in life, it seems
to wonder and contemplate
to find a love true in itself deems
so very worth the wait…

Lynn West

Memories

They say the best things in life are free,
that friends and family are everything
and I would have to agree

It seems, though, those times just don't last,
the good times with friends and family
and before you know it, it's all in the past

Dealing with this, the loss, is so hard
what is a person to do?
Memories, my friend, will help you -
just remember the good times, for they
will see you through...

Walking Your Own Path

As I continue on
my path of what
some might call
"self-delusion"
I look for my own inner peace
which to many is only an "illusion"

But at the end of life's "day"
when all is said and done,
its your own path, your own walk,
your rising moon, your setting sun

So look not back with regret
or woe
just remember your life is
your own "one man show"

And with that in mind,
live each day as your "last"
and to others be kind
as your future becomes your past

The answer comes to me
simply:

this is life,

Advice from Above

What would you say?
Would you tell me to wait
Just to live on faith
While he is away….

Would you tell me not to fret?
What advice would you give
Would you remind me of a love
That we shall never forget?

What words would flow
As I sat by your side
Would you tell me to smile
And remember what I know

Would you tell me to remember
How he made me again live…
Would you tell me not to haste
this love not to waste?

When you said all along
You’ve never been so happy
Your life is so different
It’s like you belong…

I miss you, Mom

A Full Day of Life

For each day that
you live as if
it is your last day…

your memories will be
all the more precious,
your moments all the more golden

your stars brighter,
your moon fuller,
your sun warmer
and your flowers sweeter

your perception of birth and death heightened
to a new awareness

your trust deeper
your friendships more valued
your “I love you’s”
more meaningful

so, why not start with "today"?

Captive Soul

He holds me captive, my soul his slave
ever waiting for that sweet caress
my heart beating like a drum
wanting his touch, his tenderness

He keeps my soul aflame
with words so softly spoken
I’ll never be the same
without him, my heart broken

The want, the need, the yearning
my lips cry out his name
desire inside me burning
captive soul, without shame

The need stronger every day
for bliss known in his breath
there is no other way
I must have him “til death”

Doors of My Mind

Wandering through the halls
of my mind
inward I turn,
maze after maze of memories
keeping me afloat
in a world of unknowns
where the future is a fog
and the past a blur
and pausing at a door
in my mind I open it
ever so slowly
to find a place of such beauty
that I am swept away by feelings
of complete and utter love...
for behind that door is you...
my knight in shining armor, my magic man,
the wizard of my dreams
and the prince of passion,
the keeper of my soul,
my breath of fresh air
in a smog filled world
where the nostrils are filled
with the smell of uncertainty...
you are ever there

Changing Me

contemplation is my key
to look deep inside of me

to find the path that marks my way
seeking harmony begins today

determination is my goal
to free my heart and soothe my soul

to give to others, their needs replaced
with joy and love, a smile on their face

everyone can be like this
from within, you must find your bliss…

As I Await

In spite of the somewhat lonely times
I would have it no other way…
for without you here there is a vast
emptiness in my heart,
a void that needs filling,
a soul that must be fed

And as I await the day
when the clouds open up
and the rain stops
I daydream and wish and wonder
and know….

Come when you can, magic one
yet come you must
for if found soul mates fail to join
what existence will we know
but eternal sorrow and regret?

Alone

He sits alone, words unspoken,
as the tears run down his face
so many memories crowd his mind
should have, why not, what if…

Looking back on past is hopeless
changing that cannot be done
and as the hope continues flowing
he wants his love, his “one”

Not seeing past “I love you”
or realizing what should be done
his heart won’t mend, truly broken
what if… thinks the lonely one

Bathing Beauties

Sinners in the sun
doing what we do
worshiping our bodies
won’t stop until we’re “through”

Then the moon’s a rising
stars light up the night
let’s catch a wink or two
day’s end finally in sight

We’ll start again at sunrise
and bask in the glorious sun
can’t wait for all that sunlight
a day at the beach, what fun!

Reflections of You

The scent of you lingers
in the corners of my mind
accompanied by faded
memories of
golden days with you

A time when there were
no half-hearted smiles
and the only gloom in
my life came from a
rain-soaked afternoon

Reflecting in the deepest
closets of my mind
are visions of the "we" that was

From deep within I hear
the echoes of your voice
whispering to me in
the darkness and
for a brief moment
I can relive "us"
